Shipping is a major collecting area and always has been. In the past, Great Britain was a world leader in ship building, employing many hundreds of thousands of men and women in skilled work. As well as merchant we also had a great naval tradition.
Sadly many of the well known dock yards have disappeared and our ports see far less traffic than in the golden age of the liner. These postcards provide a glimpse into a proud history and heritage when "Britannia ruled the waves".
