The Devil's Elbow. - This famous bend on the road situated between Spittal of Glenshee and Braemar, was originally cut through the wild mountain pass, for military purposes, by General Wade and his soldiers, who encountered great hardships and sacrifice of life in its construction.
It is the highest public road in Great Britain, altitude 2199 feet above sea level. Two great mountains, Glas Maol and Cairnwell, stand either side of the pass.
